Known for his unmistakable guitar playing in the James Gang and latterly the Eagles, Walsh has always had a special relationship with Gibson Guitars with one particular being an original 1960 Les Paul Standard he has owned for years. In celebration of this close association Gibson Custom have recreated this guitar in exacting detail, working closely with Walsh with access to the original instrument to create a dead-on reissue ’60 Les Paul Standard that captures the magical look and feel of the artist’s beloved guitar.

Featuring a solid, lightweight, one-piece, Grade-A Mahogany body with a top carved from hand selected maple to match to look of the original guitar. The Tangerine Burst finish is unique to this model and applied to recreate the look of Joe’s original guitar. This particular guitar, #103, certainly looks the part, he Tangerine Burst faithfully replicates the appearance of a ’60 Les Paul with known for their brighter tone of Cherry Sunburst than the earlier ’58 and ’59s. The carved maple top has a very interesting figure, the wide ribbon flame is defined and constant but really pops from certain angles.

Sonically the guitar has two of the best pickups Gibson has created since the fifties, the Custom Buckers are designed to be faithful replicas of the PAF’s in Joe’s original guitar with Alnico III magnets and wound to precisely match the specs of Joe’s original PAF humbuckers with measurements of 7.6K and 7.7K in the neck and bridge respectively. Acoustically the guitar has good sustain with a nice snap and ring to the notes. Plugged in the guitar does everything well, clean or crunch it’s a versatile Les Paul. Other appointments include Grover Rotomatic tuners,  an ABR-1 Tune-o-matic bridge set up with its saddles oriented precisely as found on Joe’s original guitar with the body and fingerboard binding, pickguard, truss-rod cover, switch ring, and control cavity covers all period-correct for shape and colour, and the guitar’s controls carries four gold Top Hat knobs with silver Vol/Tone inserts. The original frets are installed over the binding to replicate how the fret wire, post refret, is on the original. The nut measures 42.83mm with a depth of 20.44m at the first fret and 21.96 at the 12th. The guitar weighs 9.1 lbs.
