Superb 1973/74 Fender Stratocaster in factory Olympic White with Rosewood fingerboard and rare black staggered pole-piece pickups. Excellent condition throughout and a great playing example the guitar was produced in late 1973/early 1974 with part and date codes straddling these years.

Featuring an Olympic White finish over an Alder body, a classic Fender combination that always remained popular. Still a custom colour, Olympic White would have carried a $18 surcharge over the standard Sunburst finish with a Rosewood fingerboard. The finish is excellent with very little wear or marks with the exception of the odd bruise. The Maple neck has a wonderfully dark Rosewood fingerboard with all the attributes expected from the early seventies with a large headstock, bold Fender logo, Bullet truss rod, two string retainers and skunk stripe. The neck is in equally good condition with next to no signs of wear. The guitar has a serial number that sits in the late 1973 range with the neck stamp dating to the 4th week of 1974. The electronics comprise of three Staggered pole-piece single coil pickups with black flatwork instead of the usual grey. Although rare to have a set of three it isn’t uncommon to find the odd mismatched black back pickup during 1973/1974. The pickups are soldered into a three way switch with three late 1973 CTS pots. The wiring is neat and tidy with a couple of solder joints reflowed. Hardware comprises of Schaller made Fender ‘F’ tuners, black plastic pickup covers and pickguard. The tremolo and saddles are the correct 1970’s Mazak unit. The hardware is in equally good condition with only light pick wear evident on the pickguard. The Chrome hardware is clean and free from pitting. The Tremolo arm is likely a modern example.

The guitar plays effortlessly with an oval neck profile that sits on the slimmer side and stays relatively consistent as the neck approaches the body. Measuring 20.02mm at the first fret and 21.89mm at the 12th with the nut measuring a standard 41.1mm. Weighing in at 7.2 lbs it sits right at the sweet-spot for many Stratocaster players. The pickups measure 5.59k, 5.84K and 5.61K in the neck, middle and bridge respectively.

The guitar comes with its original Black Fender Case in equally good condition.
