Wonderfully played in and open sounding 90’s Gibson J-200 in a naturally honeyed Blonde finish. The guitar has been well played over the years resulting in a very charming, players J-200 that sounds great.

The J-200 is the ‘King of the Flattops’ and has been in production since the 1930’s as Gibson’s flagship, top of the range flat top acoustic. Featuring a Sitka spruce top, figured flame maple back & sides, Blonde nitrocellulose finish, multi-ply top and back body binding and deluxe appointments throughout including a pearl-inlaid Moustache bridge, graduated pearl crown fingerboard inlays, engraved flower pickguard and gold plated hardware.

The guitar was purchased from us pre-owned 15 years ago and has been used regularly since. The guitar is starting to show honest wear from use, the neck has a patch of play through and the body has various nicks, bruises and dints all adding to the guitars aesthetic. It has been well looked after but obviously not been coddled giving the guitar a naturally aged vintage appearance that belies its age. The Headstock has a common sight on many mid-nineties guitars, the lacquer has started to check, this is due to the lacquer used by Gibson as opposed to anything conditional or environmental. The guitar is free from repair, the original frets have plenty of life left but there is some wear in the first position. The saddle has plenty of height and the guitar plays well with a good, medium action.

The guitar sounds great, an excellent singer-strummer but also sweet when finger or flat picked. There is good reason why the J-200 has been used by artists such as Elvis, Bob Dylan, Emmy Lou Harris and Tom Petty and in various musical styles from western to blues to folk to rock to country. The J-200’s longer 25.5″ scale makes for superb clarity and headroom when paired with the 17” Jumbo body. The Maple construction gives the J-200 a great transparency that lets the rounded bass and defined treble show through.

The guitar comes with its pictured original Gibson case. Although the case is in good condition the interior shroud is showing wear and the lock is set open in the forgetful position.
