Superb 45 year old Rosewood Dreadnought from S.L. Mossman. Handmade in Winfield, Kansas the Flint Hills is perhaps the most well known model of the range, featuring a Sitka Spruce top, East Indian Rosewood Back and Sides, Ebony Fingerboard and Bridge and Mossman’s own proprietary bracing. This guitar has been in the UK with the same owner since the late seventies and is in fantastic condition.

A rare sight in the U.K, Mossman Guitars were started by Stuart Mossman in 1970 as a response to what he believed was the lower quality among the larger, established guitar manufacturers. Specializing in the production of dreadnoughts, the companies story is one of both tragedy and triumph. The 70’s would see the brand not only compete but eclipse the major manufactures in terms of craftsmanship, tonewoods quality and attention to detail before a factory fire, bad distribution deal and declining health would see Mossman sell the company to a former employee, Scott Baxendale in 1986.

The guitar is a fantastic condition throughout with a few minor knock and dings here and there. The guitar is expertly crafted and finished to a level that easily matches it’s contemporaries. The Spruce top is tight and straight grained and the Indian rosewood is a nicely book matched piece. Appointments include elegant purfling, soundhole rosette and zipper back inlay.

The guitar is a great player with a good action and playability, the neck is a slim to medium depth with a profile that is oval with a slight hint of V. The nut width is 43.96mm and the neck measures 21.07mm at the 1st fret. The guitar has a good volume, well balanced treble and bass frequencies with a sweetness to the overtones that suit a flat pick of fingers equally.

The guitar comes with it’s original case.
