Cool, clean, one-owner example of a late seventies Fender Telecaster in factory Black with matching Black Pickguard and figured, dark Rosewood fingerboard.

The seventies would see CBS Fender implementing lots of changes throughout its range with the introduction of new models and changes in construction and manufacturing to existing models all with the exception of the Leo’s first guitar. The Telecaster would remain for the most part, unaltered throughout the 1970s, retaining the 4 bolt neck attachment, body end truss rod adjustment, pickup configuration and overall appearance of its earlier 50’s and 60’s siblings.

This factory Black guitar is a great example of a late seventies Fender Telecaster. The serial number puts the guitar in the 1979 range. The Maple neck is blemish free with only a slight variation in hue between the Nitrocelulose headstock front and urethane lacquered neck, the Indian Rosewood fingerboard is nicely figured with no groves or evidence of serious playing wear. The Black finish looks smart and is in excellent condition throughout with only a small dint to the upper bout and a patch of surface wear from a strap noticeable, otherwise it is nice and clean and free from blemishes. As was the procedure at this time, the body would receive a matching serial number to the neck. Here, both serial numbers are matching. Both pickups share the plastic coated wiring expected from this era with 2 CTS pots, one has the date obscured by solder with the other bearing an ’81 date code. Hardware comprises of Schaller made Fender ‘F’ tuners, 3 saddle Telecaster bridge and black 3-ply pickguard.

Weighing in at 9lbs, the guitar plays nicely, the frets have plenty of life. The neck has a comfortable slim/medium C profile that fills out towards the 12th fret. Late seventies Fenders have seen a real increase in popularity recently and despite production numbers being greater than the ‘50s and ‘60s good examples are getting harder to find. This one owner guitar comes with the pictured tweed case it was sold with and Fender Tags.
