2008 Fender Custom Shop David Gilmour Relic Stratocaster
£9,995.00
Stunning first year Fender Custom Shop David Gilmour Relic Stratocaster. A painstakingly accurate replica of the Gilmour’s famous Stratocaster, the guitar used by the Floyd guitarist since 1970 and known affectionately as ‘The Black Strat’. A cornerstone of Pink Floyd's revolutionary and incomparable sound, Gilmour's Black Strat is featured extensively on The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall and his critically-acclaimed 2006 solo effort, On An Island. In fantastic original condition, this highly collectible and highly anticipated replica was introduced in 2008 after collaboration between the Fender Custom Shop, David Gilmour and his long time guitar tech Phil Taylor.
Purchased in 1970 from Manny's Music in New York City, ‘The Black Strat’ was a regular production 1969 Fender Stratocaster with a Maple cap neck. First used live at the 1970 Bath Festival the guitar would undergo numerous famous modifications and changes to get to where the guitar is today. The level of detail the Fender Custom Shop went to in recreating the guitar is staggering. From the accuracy of the Relic finish to the pickups and electronics right down to the tint of lacquer and profile of the neck, it's all there.
Unique features include a select Alder Body with a Black over Sunburst Nitro-cellulose finish relic’ed and aged just like the original with a Maple neck based upon David’s 1983 U.S. Vintage '57 Strat neck with a thin shouldered ‘C’ profile. Pickups comprise of a Custom Wound Seymour Duncan SSL-5 Single-Coil Strat pickup in the Bridge with two Fender Custom Shop David Gilmore Custom-Wound Pickups in the Middle and Neck position. Pickups measure 12.65K in the bridge with the middle and neck measuring 5.43K and 6.04k. Controls are as standard with the exception of a mini toggle switch to bring neck pickup in with the bridge or middle or both. Hardware includes a thick, bevelled single ply Black Pickguard with Aged White Plastic Control Knobs and Pickup Covers. A Custom Beveled Tremolo Block with no back Tremolo Cover and a Custom Shortened Tremolo Arm.
Now discontinued the NOS finish and particularly the early Relic examples have become highly sought. Essential for any Gilmour or Floyd fan this guitar will not disappoint. It is in excellent original condition throughout and comes with its original Deluxe Black Hardshell Case, Custom Leather Strap, David Gilmour's Three Disc "Live In Gdansk" CD and DVD Package, a Copy of Phil Taylor's "The Black Strat" Book and the Certificate of Authenticity. The guitar tips the scales at 7.6lbs
