2013 Gibson Duane Allman '59 Les Paul Standard, Aged
By Gibson
£15,850.00
Spectacular Gibson Custom Duane Allman ’59 Les Paul Standard. Released in 2013 and Limited to only 150 Aged instruments these highly accurate reproductions of Allman’s most recorded guitar were an instant hit with players and collectors alike with only a handful of examples landing in the UK. Hand-aged by Tom Murphy the finish is unsurprisingly some of the finest work we have seen from the Custom Shop with a wonderful top and perfectly faded Double Dirty Lemon finish.
Featuring a solid, lightweight, hand-selected single piece Mahogany body, with a two-piece Maple top hand-selected to match the look of the top on Duane's original guitar. A one-piece Mahogany neck carved to the precise profile of the original Allman Les Paul and topped with a one-piece dark Indian Rosewood fingerboard inlaid with aged cellulose trapezoid position markers for a vintage-correct appearance. The pickups are a set of the fantastic sounding CustomBucker with Alnico III magnets and wound to replicate those in the original ’59. Both pickups are fitted with no covers, revealing the double-black coils familiar from Duane´s original guitar. A traditional hardware set completes the look of the Duane Allman 1959 Les Paul. The ABR-1 Tune-o-matic bridge with brass saddles and a lightweight aluminum stopbar tailpiece display decades of playing wear through Gibson Custom´s hand-aging process. A set of Schaller double-ring tuners represent one of the only notable modifications to the original guitar. Vintage-correct cream reissue binding, gold top-hat knobs, cream pickup rings and switch ring, and a period-correct two-ply “bell” truss-rod cover complete the spec’s.
The guitar weighs an impressive 8.7lbs, it feels lightweight in the hand and lively and resonant when played acoustically. The original frets show little wear and the guitar plays effortlessly strung with 10 gauge strings and top wrapped tailpiece. The neck is one of the finer ’59 profiles we have felt with a depth at the 1st fret of 22.73mm and 25.29mm at the 12th. The Alnico III CustomBucker pickups measure 7.12K in the neck and 7.15K in the bridge.
The guitar comes with a brown Lifton Reissue case with a Dust Cover Inspired by Duane's Famous "Peacock" Shirt, a metal engraved Certificate of Authenticity with flight-case-themed holder and a USB drive with video documentary of the guitar hosted by Lee Roy Parnell. A testament to the quality of guitar and the level of detail the Gibson Custom Shop were going to under the stewardship of Edwin Wilson. One of the finest Gibson Custom guitars we have had through the doors the Duane Allman '59 Les Paul Standard is a fine legacy to one of the true greats.
