In production since the early 1930’s the Martin D-28 has earned quite a reputation. Known for it’s booming projection and harmonically rich, high quality tone it became popular initially amongst Bluegrass and Country players and would go on to be used by countless musicians such as Hank Williams, The Beatles, Johnny Cash, Neil Young and Bob Dylan becoming an absolute benchmark acoustic guitar and a staple in the Martin Guitars Catalog.
This Excellent Martin D-28 from 1979, features a tight grained hand chosen Sitka spruce top with black and white binding and black and withe purfling around the soundhole and Ebony bridge, Indian Rosewood Back and sides, Hand carved bracing and a hand carved Mahogany neck with the D-28 Signature Diamond Volute, rosewood Headstock overlay and Ebony Fingerboard.
This well travelled guitar has a beautiful, aged top, honeyed in colour with one small, stable crack by the pickguard. The dark, attractively figured Indian Rosewood back and sides are crack free. The neck has a comfortable 1 11/16” nut with a generous slight hint of V to the C Profile.
Brought to us by the instruments original owner, it has been used regularly and looks and sounds all the better for it with various well earned nicks and dings throughout but nothing to detract from the guitars honest vintage appearance. Lively and harmonically rich the guitar sounds open with all the volume present that a D-28 is known for. Freshly cleaned and strung with a set of 12 gauge strings, the original saddle is low but the guitar has a good action and plays well up the neck.
The guitar comes with it’s original Martin Case and Warranty card.
