Description
Super cool and great sounding Pearl fronted Martin D-41 Dreadnought from 1973. First listed in 1969 the D-41 is a highly appointed and stunningly ornamented instrument with construction like that of the venerable D-28.

The body features a choice selection of Sitka Spruce for the top with a center jointed Indian Rosewood back and sides. The bound Ebony fingerboard is punctuated by a series of Abalone Pearl Hexagon inlays and the bound headstock proudly displays the inlayed white mother-of-pearl C. F. Martin logo vertically alongside Gold plated Grover tuners. The edge bound Sitka Spruce top has an abalone pearl purfling around its perimeter and soundhole rosette. The two piece rosewood back is separated by a wooden marquetry back strip. The Ebony bridge has a drop in saddle and white pins with abalone dots.

This great looking players guitar has a beautifully honeyed and warm finish that not every old Martin gets to look like. The top has plenty of nicks, marks, bruises and strum marks that show the guitar has been played and enjoyed throughout it's life, and it's no wonder when it sounds as good as it does. The Spruce is uniformly tight and straight grained, the Rosewood has a deep, chocolate hue with a pleasant vertical figuring.

The guitar had seen some running repairs over the years (often the sign of a well loved guitar); the Rosewood sides have had several cracks professionally repaired and neatly cleated internally, there is evidence of a plugged input jack on the lower bout and the guitar has had an excellent neck reset and been refretted.

The guitar sounds great with a huge, warm enveloping tone. It's well balanced with good projection and decent headroom with a pleasant growl to the midrange that works well when picked or strummed. The neck is a comfortable C profile that tapers nicely from nut to body, the nut width is 1 11/16th”.

All in all an excellent player grade example. Comes with the pictured blue lined hardshell case.
