1974 Gibson Les Paul Custom, Cherry Sunburst
Super cool players 1974 Les Paul Custom in a great looking Sunburst Finish, lots of hard earned wear an old stable Headstock repair and some replacement parts help keep this ones price down. Original T Top humbuckers sound great and some med-jumbo frets mean it plays effortlessly.
Construction is consistent with Les Paul Custom models from the early 70’s with a three-piece ‘pancake’ mahogany body with two piece maple top, three piece mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard and two Gibson Humbucker pickups as standard. Appointments include a diamond inlayed, multi bound headstock with Gold tuners, a bound neck with multi-ply double-bound body, gold ABR-1 bridge and tailpiece, black pickup surrounds and pickguard and Gold pickup covers.
This guitar is a great looking example in Cherry Sunburst finish, the Sunburst has started to mellow giving the guitar less of a stark two-tone appearance that some seventies Customs can have. Bucklerash to the rear and pick wear to the from are a testament to how much this one has been played. There have been a few running repairs over the years with a few replacement parts along the way namely a repair to the headstock and the necessary finish work to the neck post repair and overspray to the neck. The guitar is currently fitted with a reproduction Tune-o-omatic bridge and tailpiece and the pickups have had their covers removed. The knobs are a set of reproduction silver reflector knobs and the tuners are Gold plated Grovers. Truss rod cover, pickguard and poker chips are all correct for the guitar. Pickups are a set of PAT stamped T Tops with original surrounds and readings of 7.31K and 7.36K. The surrounds have cracked but are perfectly stable. Pots are DiMarzio replacements.
The neck is a comfortable oval meets C profile with a depth at the 1st fret of 19.47mm filling out to 24.97 at the 12th. The weight is a decent 9.6 lbs. Lighter than many Custom Les Pauls from this period. The guitar has had a re-fret with medium jumbo wire and the nut is a newer replacement. The guitar has had a few changes over the years a some running repairs but remains a great players Les Paul Custom and a great way into the world of vintage Les Pauls. The guitar comes with a newer aftermarket case.
