£10,495.00
Wonderful Gibson Custom Collectors Choice #17 Aged “Louis”. Part of the incredibly successful Collectors Choice Series that ran from 2010 to 2017 with 40 guitars replicated in exacting detail. Collectors Choice #17A was released in 2014 and is based upon the original 1959 Les Paul owned by Keith Nelson original guitarist of the Band Buckcherry. Released as a strictly limited package of 300 instruments each with their own Gibson Custom Shop Certificate of Authenticity.
The Gibson Custom Shop team has recreated 9-1062 in exacting detail with every minor ding, scuff, and wear patch hand aged to resemble the original instrument. The body features a 2 piece figured Maple top with figure chosen to closely resemble the original, carved for vintage accuracy, a lightweight solid Mahogany back with no weight relief. The solid Mahogany neck has a ‘59 C-shape Profile replicated from the original with a long Tenon joint, glued with period correct hide glue. The fingerboard is solid Rosewood with Cellulose Nitrate Trapezoid inlays affixed to the neck with hide glue. Frets are the standard style for ’59 and are inside the binding just a Gibson would haver done in 1959. The ‘Dirty Lemon Burst’ finish is aged cellulose lacquer sprayed with a patern and hue to resemble the Sunburst of 9-1062 as it is today. Uniquely for the Collectors Choice Run “Louis” Features a Gibson BurstBucker III (Alnico III) in the neck and a Classic ’57 (Alnico V) in the Bridge position. Pickups are wired to a hardwired harness with 2 500K Volume Pots, 2 CTS Tone Pots with Bumblebee Capacitors and a three-way Toggle switch.
This guitar is number 157 of the run and a great example of the quality the Collectors Choice guitars exhibit, the ageing is up there with some of the finest we’ve seen by the Custom Shop with lots of attention to detail. The guitar feels lively and lightweight tipping the scales at 8.49lbs. The neck has a wonderful almost shoulderless mid-59 profile, measuring 23.45mm at the 1st and 24.78 at the 12th fret. The nut width is 43.12. The deliberately chosen mismatched pickups work very well with the alnico V Classic ’57 in the bridge balancing well with the Alnico III Burstbucker in the neck despite the higher output. The neck pickup is warm and defined and the bridge has a bite when driven hard that suits most styles.
The guitars from the Collectors Choice range we have been lucky enough to have in the shop have never failed to impress and CC17A is a particularly good example. In the Collectors Choice series Gibson have recreated specific vintage instruments from across the Golden-era of of Gibson electric guitar production and allowed Players and Collectors around the world the opportunity to experience the precise look, feel, and tone of some of the rarest original examples out there. The range is still popular today with many players and collectors specifically seeking these limited run guitars out. The guitar is in excellent condition with little wear plays excellently. The guitar comes with its original case and Collectors Choice Trifold Certificate.
