Crafted in the Memphis Custom Shop the ES-330L is the long neck version of the classic ‘60s ES-330 design with the body/neck joint moved from the 16th fret to the 19th fret as Gibson introduced in 1968. This gives the guitar a silhouette akin to an ES-335 and much improved access to the fingerboard past the 12th fret. The 2015 ES-330L features a full 1 11/16th inch nut width unlike the original late ’60s early ’70s examples that feature the narrower nut.
Featuring a fully hollow, thinline body with a single piece mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard with block position inlays, Pearl inlayed Gibson logo, Gibson Deluxe vintage style tuners with tulip buttons, an ABR-1 tuneomatic/trapeze tailpiece assembly and 2x Gibson P-90 pickups with black dog-ear covers with early 60s style reflector-top knobs.
The guitar sounds excellent with plenty of acoustic volume from the fully hollow thinline body, with a pleasant percussive snap to the note attack. Plugged in the guitar is twangy with a pleasant presence to the bridge pickup with a big, warm and rounded sound when switched to the neck. Clean it sounds great for everything from Grant Green to latter day Beatles, into a breaking up amp it sound perfect for everything from roots Americana, swampy blues to trashy garage rock n roll.
The guitar has been played regularly and although in excellent condition there are signs of use. The original frets do show some wear especially in the 1st position but the guitar plays well and the frets have plenty of height left.
Weighing a scant 6.3lbs, the guitar comes with its Original Gibson case, and Custom Shop Certificate.
