Wonderful small box 50 Watt Plexi just back from a service and sounding glorious! A very similar spec amplifier to the last Plexi we had in and from a period of production where Marshall were transitioning from the earlier JTM45 and JTM50 to the new JMP50 model.
Most likely one of the earliest JMPs and dating to the tail end of 1967 this amp is running on EL-34s with a GZ34 rectifier. Drake output and power transformers with 784 139 and 1202 133 source codes respectively. The choke is likewise manufactured by Drake with a source code of 352 114.
Internally the steel chassis is in great condition with little corrosion, the factory inspection chart is still present. The tag board is the solid red type used by Marshall and thanks to the inspection chart we know it was assembled by Joyce.
During its recent service some of the electrolytic capacitors were found to be leaking and have been replaced. The Indicator light has been replaced and a new matched pair of power valves fitted. Externally the cabinet is in great condition, there are a few nicks and tears but the covering is clean with little wear. The Plexi front and back panels are free from cracks or damage and the rear cover still has the original Marshall plate pinned to it. Both volume knobs are replacements. The gold piping is intact but the small Gold script Marshall logo has been damaged but could easily be replaced.
The amp sounds exactly as you would imagine with all the countless classic tones heard on stage or on record easily on tap at the twist of the volume knob. Early Marshall Plexi amps have always been highly sough after for good reason with good examples like this becoming harder and harder to find today.
