Super cool, single owner 1978 Fender Telecaster with a wonderfully aged Olympic White finish giving off strong Blackguard vibes. Bought new from the Fender Soundhouse in the late seventies it is in nice condition with a couple of well considered yet reversible mods. The guitar comes with an original Fender, black Tolex Fender Case and original Hangtag.

Underneath the Olympic White finish the body is Alder with no repairs or modifications. The original Olympic White finish has started to age nicely with the white taking on a honeyed colour over time. The neck has a nice dark Indian Rosewood fingerboard with Pearl dot inlays. The original frets have lost some height but the guitar still plays very well with no issues. The bold Telecaster decal has the S8 serial number below and is beneath the lacquer. The neck is stamped in the later CBS format and dates to ’79.

The original pickups have a mixture of yellow, black and white poly coated wires with no evidence of coils being rewound. Electronics comprise of two CTS potentiometers with the matching date code 137 7735 with the standard ceramic disc capacitor. The original CRL 3-way switch has been replaced with a modern 4-way switch enabling Series and Parallel tones with both pickups selected effectively stacking the two single coil pickups to create a humbucker of sorts. The mod is easily reversible but has become a popular addition to many of the new Telecaster models Fender offer today.

Hardware is all correct with Fender Schaller ‘F’ logo tuners, chrome bridge plate with 3 steel barrel saddles and Black, three-ply, 8 hole pickguard. The original saddles have been replaced with three aftermarket brass saddles. The hardware is all in great condition.

The guitar weighs in at only 7.9 lbs - a very good weight for this era. The bridge pickup measures 6.16K and the neck pickup 7.13K. The neck is has a fairly large, rounded profile for this era, it isn’t quite the large profile early fifties Teles are known for but is a pleasant surprise for players that prefer a larger neck. The neck measures 22.74mm at the 1st fret and 24.04 at the 12th with the standard Fender 1 5/8 ‘B’ nut width or 40.69mm measured with callipers.

All in all a very nice, one-owner guitar from ’78 in great condition complete with tags and original case. The aged Olympic white gives the guitar real Blackguard look when combined with the 3-ply pickguard. The changed saddles and wiring mod are easily reversible should the next owner wish but we feel the guitar sounds great as is, with the four way switch adding more versatility to an already great sounding guitar. The guitar comes with its American Fender hard case - itself a rarity that the previous owner paid extra for - and hang tag.
