Super cool, rare left-handed player's 1974 Les Paul Custom in a great looking Sunburst Finish. Released in 1974 and Gibson's first Anniversary model, the 20th Anniversary Les Paul Custom celebrates 20 years from the first appearance of the range topping Les Paul Custom in the Gibson catalog. As is befitting a range-topping Anniversary model the guitar has high-end appointments throughout and a commemorative 20th Anniversary Inlay at the 15th fret. The 20th Anniversary Custom proved to be very successful and would go on to be used by players as diverse as Randy Rhodes, Steve Jones and Lindsey Buckingham. Offered in and often seen in Black and White, Wine Red and Cherry Sunburst guitars were also produced.in smaller numbers with Left haded models also rare.

Construction of the 20th Anniversary models is consistent with Les Paul Custom models from the early 70’s with a three piece mahogany body with two piece maple top, three piece mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard and two Gibson Humbucker pickups as standard. Appointments include a diamond inlayed, multi bound headstock with Gold tuners, a bound neck with multi-ply double-bound body, gold ABR-1 bridge and tailpiece, black pickup surrounds and pickguard and Gold pickup covers.

This guitar is a great players example in Cherry Sunburst finish, the Sunburst has started to mellow giving the guitar less of a stark two tone appearance that some seventies Customs can have. There have been a few running repairs over the years with a few replacement parts namely a repair to the headstock and the necessary finish work to the neck post repair. The headstock face and the body are the original finish. The guitar is currently fitted with a reproduction Nashville style Brass bridge and tailpiece and the pickups have had their covers removed. The knobs are a set of reproduction silver reflector knobs. Otherwise the Tuners, Truss rod cover, pickguard and poker chips are all correct for the guitar. Pickups are a set of PAT stamped T Tops with readings of 6.83K and 6.9K. Pots and caps are modern replacements.

The neck is a comfortable oval meets C profile with a depth at the 1st fret of 19.81mm filling out to 24.59 at the 12th. The weight is a decent 9.6 lbs - lighter than many Custom Les Pauls from this period. The guitar has had a re-fret and the nut is a newer replacement. Despite a few changes and some running repairs this guitar remains a great lefty player's Les Paul Custom and a great way into the world of vintage Les Pauls that the new owner could return to a more original appearance with some modern replacement or vintage parts. The guitar comes with a newer aftermarket case.
