2007 Gretsch Custom Shop Stephen Stern G6120-SSC Brian Setzer Tribute,

By Gretsch

Stunning Gretsch Custom Shop Brian Setzer Tribute 6120 in fantastic condition. Built by the untouchable Stephen Stern, head of the Gretsch Custom Shop this guitar is number 46 of only 59 produced and the first Tribute Model produced in the Gretsch Custom Shop. An accurate replica of the original 1959 6120 bought by Brian Setzer at the age of 17 and used extensively throughout his illustrious career with all mods, repairs and wear included.

Featuring a historically accurate 16” wide, fully hollow, single cutaway Laminated Maple body with 1959 trestle bracing. The 2.75” deep body is finished in a super thin Vintage Western Maple Stain nitro-cellulose finish accurately aged to replicate the original. The neck is made from hard rock maple with an ebony fingerboard. Being a ’59 the fingerboard has the mother of pearl neo-classic thumbnail inlays used by Gretsch from mid-1958 on. The 22 fret neck has a 9.45” radius with a 1-11/16” nut width. Pickups are a matched pair of TV Jones Classic humbuckers wired to a 3-position toggle with independent pickup Volume controls and a Master Volume. Hardware is a mix of distressed chrome, nickel and polished aluminium. Tuners are made by Schaller, mirroring the original with a Bigsby B6 vibrato and Space-Control bridge handling the other end of the strings admirably. From the replacement tuners with redundant, filled screw holes to the zero fret conversion and the ‘modified’ tone switch The attention to detail of the Custom Shop in recreating this replica is second to none. Decals have been painstakingly recreated, the dice control knobs are specifically Monopoly dice and the bridge is held down with double-sided carpet tape. This continues with the case and assorted goodies - the case is a gently aged Deluxe Gretsch Cowboy case, there is a re-creation of Brian Setzer’s leather bejewelled guitar strap as well as re-creations of classic Stray Cats backstage passes hang tags and certificate.

Superb to play as all Stephen Stern creations tend to be with fantastic, authentic 6120 sounds thanks to the TV Jones pickups. As one of only 59 produced these accurate replicas were always giving to be sought after instruments built back when the Gretsch Custom Shop was still a a small crew in a little upstairs corner workshop at the Fender factory as a tribute to the man that kept Gretsch guitars in the spotlight .
