Description
Lovely Gibson A-2 in remarkable condition for a 100 year old instrument. classic This classic Paddle peghead Mandolin was made during the history defining Loar-era at Gibson. With the Classic Sheraton Brown finish it is complete with its pickguard, adjustable Bridge, Tailpiece and Cover.

Features are typical for this period with a bound straight-grained Spruce top with bound oval sound hole with double ring rosette, Maple back and sides with front and back binding, a three piece Mahogany neck with bound Ebony fingerboard punctuated with pearl position markers at the 5,7,10.12 and 15th fret. The paddle headstock is a characteristic feature of earlier Gibson Mandolins, it has a Pearl "The Gibson” inlay. It is finished in a dark but very thin Sheraton Brown varnish top with a raised celluloid pickguard with an early Ebony version of Gibson’s new adjustable bridge and the elegant Gibson-engraved tailpiece cover.

The Mandolin is in fine condition, the finish exhibits general light marks and wear from use. Certainly nothing more than would be expected for a 100 year old instrument. Under blacklight the Back of the neck has a different UV signature to the body from use . The Frets show some wear but have a decent height left.

With a powerful, defined voice it’s no wonder Mandolins from this era of Gibson production are so sought after. The Mandolin comes in a modern well fitted case.
