Model Overview

The Gibson Custom Robby Krieger 1954 Les Paul Custom is a painstaking reissue of the guitar played by Robby Krieger on The Doors hit song L.A. Woman. When the original guitar first appeared sometime in 1968 it became a constant writing companion, performance and recording partner and through a close collaboration between Robby and the Gibson Custom Shop a very limited number of handcrafted replicas of the Robby Krieger 1954 Les Paul Custom were produced in 2014. The first 50 guitars, hand-aged by Gibson, were played, approved and signed by Robby himself. A further 100 hand-aged guitars were produced, with the final 150 of the run treated to Gibson Custom's proprietary VOS process. Every Robby Krieger 1954 Les Paul Custom is recreated based on hands-on examination, digital scanning, intimate photography, measurement, and study of Robby's Les Paul to ensure each guitar is as close to the original as possible. This includes the closely matched top dish carve, the satisfyingly chunky vintage '54 profile mahogany neck with extended neck tenon and hide-glue construction, the ebony fingerboard with aged pearl block markers, vintage multi-ply binding and painstaking hand-aging. Other key features include, like the original guitar, the combination of a classic pre-PAF P-90 pickup in the bridge and a Seymour Duncan Mini Humbucker in the neck. The P90 can do everything from smooth clear jazz lines with the tone dialled back to the classic barky P90 tone with a bit of grit. The Mini Humbucker offers a clearer, brighter, more precise tone than your typical humbucker pickup.

Our example is #16 of the run of 50 aged and signed guitars and is in the same condition as it was when it left the Gibson Factory complete with original case, paperwork and Certificate of Authenticity. The perfect guitar for a Doors fan but equally appealing to any player looking for a superb Les Paul Custom with an abundance of vintage feel and tone.
